Reception - Miss Rowlands

Welcome to Reception

This term in Reception we will be investigating the question ‘What do I know about me?’ using the ‘Monkey Puzzle’ story by Julia Donaldson.

This topic starts with the children themselves and their experiences. They will be sharing information through speaking and listening activities and beginning to write captions and labels, using books as stimulation. They will be remembering themselves as babies and creating amazing self-portraits.

Through this topic, the children will explore a range of questions, such as-

  • How am I the same, how am I different?
  • What makes a family?
  • Why do I look like I do?
  • What I like best is…?
  • Where in the world do my family come from?
  • What can I do with my body?
  • Reflection: My special quality

Class days:

P.E
Monday and Wednesday

This half term we will be learning to move our bodies in a range of ways, such as slithering, shuffling, rolling, crawling, walking, running, jumping, skipping, sliding and hopping.

We will also be thinking about how to keep ourselves safe and negotiate space successfully, adjusting speed or direction to avoid obstacles.

Reading

School reading books will be changed on Mondays and Thursdays so please ensure your child brings their book and reading diary to school on these days.

Please read regularly with your child and complete the reading diary so their book can be changed.
