Year 6 – The Journey to Jo’burg

In year 6 this term we are studying the book, The Journey to Jo’burg by Beverley Naidoo.

It is the story of two black children who, in apartheid South Africa, set off on a 300km journey to Johannesburg to find their mother.

We are using the novel as stimulus for our work. We are looking at the role apartheid played in South Africa, the life of Nelson Mandela and much more. We are studying the geography of the country and using it as stimulus for our art work.
